Mission:

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties is a faith-based, nonprofit organization whose goal is to partner with local low-income families to help them build or renovate and then buy their own homes within our two-county service area. Habitat homes are simple, decent, safe, and affordable. Habitat homes are affordable for our partner families because:

- our families and other unpaid volunteers provide much of the construction labor

- we sell our homes to qualified low-income families at no-profit prices

- we provide no-interest home loans

- our home loans offer affordable monthly payments.

Public Information/Orientation Meetings

As we near completion of the two renovated houses for the Noorda and Guerrera families, we are looking ahead to partnering with new families. We'd like your help getting the word out to families interested in applying for our program. Please share the following information and post one of these fliers (Click for PDF in English or Spanish) at your office, church or other location.

Families who do not own a home of their own, who have lived or worked in Northern Utah for at least one year, and who's annual household income is between 25% and 50% of the median income for the Greater Salt Lake City Metropolitan area are eligible for our program.

The actual partner families are selected on the basis of three criteria: 1) actual need for better housing, 2) willingness to participate as a partner with Habitat, and 3) income and ability to pay for a Habitat home. The next application and selection process requires attendance at one of the following Public Information/Orientation meetings:

For questions or further information, they may contact our office at 801-475-9821 or email.

Thank you for your help and support this past year.

Habitat for Humanity Seeking Weekday Help

Billy Rutter has been working some weekdays toward completing our house renovations at 128 and 133 Doxey Street in Ogden. He'll be out there during the next few weeks and can use some help. This Wednesday, November 18, he needs the help of about 10 people to install the insulation at 133 Doxey and do some exterior painting while the weather holds. He'll be there at 8:30 am to begin work. If you can give him a hand, just show up at 8:30 am tomorrow, or give him a call and let him know when you are available.

The drywall has been completed at 128 Doxey. At this house we need the help of some people experienced with finish carpentry from their own work or home remodeling. If you're available and willing to help during the week or weekend with some of the finish carpentry, please call or email Billy (billyrutter@weber.edu or 801-388-3076) to coordinate with him and find out what needs to be done.

Habitat for Humanity Seeks Help Finishing Houses

We have two renovation projects that we are currently working on and we are looking into purchasing land to continue our efforts to eliminate substandard housing for families in our community into the next year.

We would like to get both of our partner families, the Noordas and the Guerreras, into their homes for the holidays. We can accomplish this with a well organized plan and cooperation of many of our volunteers. But we need your help.

Our immediate need is to put together a schedule for the work to be completed on the houses and to line up volunteers and/or sub-contractors to perform that work. Our long term need is for an organized construction committee that will be responsible for working together to plan and execute the completion of future projects.

Here is the status on our current houses. If you can help with any of these items or if you have connections with others who can donate expertise or materials, please let us know.

128 Doxey Street:
1) Drywall is complete. Need to insulate water pipes in the basement.
2) Finish carpentry begins Tues. Nov. 10th. We will begin working at 8 am to hang doors, base, case, shelving and window trim... need to hook up thermostat while we are there.
3) Top soil is needed.
4) Permanent power should be turned on within 2 weeks. The gas and water are both on.
5) Soffit needs to be finished, we need 40 ft of fascia to complete this task.
6) I received a bid for $2009 to install cabinets.
7) Tile needs to be installed in bathroom, kitchen, dining room, and front entry way. Approx. 400 sq ft.
8) Carpet needs to be installed in bedrooms, living room, hallway.
9) Linoleum needs to be installed in laundry room.
10) Electric plugs and switches need to be installed.
11) Ceiling fans and lights need to be installed.
12) Volunteers will paint (one tone), but we need to caulk. Billy has a paint sprayer to do the final coat.
13) Railing and balusters on front porch need to be completed.
14) Exterior windows need trim to cover foam insulation.
15) Tree removal is on the schedule, but we are waiting on the power company to drop the power lines. $1260
16) Volunteers will plant trees and can spread grass seed on the yard. It would be better to get sod donated.
17) Shad Roundy of Oasis Plumbing is donating labor to finish plumbing.

133 Doxey Street:
1) Electrical, HVAC and rough plumbing are complete
2) There are a few framing items to be addressed before we are ready for 4-way inspection. Stairs and fireblocking
3) Insulation needs to be installed. Also insulate water pipes in basement and put visqueen in crawl space
4) Drywall installation is scheduled to be done by Do-it-All Drywall within one week. Finish carpentry will begin after that.
5) Cabinet bid received for $4500.
6) Will need to install tile in kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, dining room, and entry ways. Approx. 600 sq ft.
7) Exterior paint needs to be completed while weather is nice
8) Lap siding to be painted and installed on back gable.
9) Exterior window on front gable needs to be trimmed.
10) Deck in back of house needs to be completed.
11) Shad Roundy of Oasis Plumbing is donating labor to finish plumbing.
12) install plugs, switches, ceiling fans, and lights.

Habitat for Humanity Construction Work Continues

Construction work at our two house renovations at 128 and 133 Doxey Street in Ogden continues on most Saturdays in November and December. In November we'll be working all Saturdays except the last Saturday. We will start up again in December and work the first three Saturdays. Work begins at 9 am and continues until 4 or 5 pm.

This Saturday looks like we'll have a return to warmer weather. We'll be finishing up some outside work and also be doing a lot of indoor work. Dress for the weather, in layers, and for construction, sturdy shoes and old clothes. If you've got work gloves and finish carpentry tools, we'd be glad to have your bring those. They may or may not be necessary. We do have tools, safety gear, water, snacks and lunch is provided.

Hope many of you saw the article in Sunday's Standard Examiner about Habitat construction work on October 24. We really rely on the help of individuals, groups, students and our friends from Hill AFB to get these old houses converted into safe, affordable homes for our family partners. Without your help it wouldn't happen. Members of the Exchange Club that helped on the 24th are already looking forward to coming out again this week. Join us one of these Saturdays -- It's fun and rewarding.. (posted: November 02 2009)

Habitat Construction Activity Update

We hoped to be having construction work activities every Saturday this summer. Recently our Construction Chair found out he will be TDY for the next 2 or 3 weeks, then sent overseas. As a result our construction schedule is now up in the air. At this moment we do not have a revised work schedule. Until we hear further, there will not be any Saturday work parties beginning this Saturday, June 13.

As soon as we have the revised schedule and resume construction activities, we will let you know.

Thanks to all who have called and/or emailed the office offering to help out these next couple of weeks. Your help is invaluable, and our partner families are eager to work with you to complete their homes. (posted: June 13 2009)

Habitat for Humanity Summer Work Schedule

We are moving right along with renovation on the two old houses at 127 and 133 Doxey Street in Ogden for the Guerrera and Noorda families. We'll have construction activities going on at these two sites every Saturday through August. We hope you can get out and give us a hand one or more Saturdays this summer.

In June we'll be doing the siding and electrical work on 127. Framing at 133 Doxey will continue as people are available to help.

If you plan to come out, please call or email the office by Friday, so we know how many people to plan for. If you have a group of 6 or more who want to come out on a given date, please call the office to coordinate. You don't need any special skills to help, but experienced volunteers are especially welcome to help our crew leaders. We do have tools, but if you have tools for the project at hand, we'd be glad to have you bring your own.

We begin work at 9:00 AM and continue until we're done, about 2:00 or 3:00 PM. A simple lunch is provided mid-day, but you don't need to stay for the whole day. If you, or a group you know, would like to provide lunch, please call or email the office. We need help with that, too.

Thanks for your continuing interest in and support of our effort to provide safe, affordable housing for families like the Guerreras and Noordas. (posted: June 07 2009)

Construction Activities in May

133 Doxey Street

Construction activities at our two properties on Doxey Street in Ogden will take place every Saturday in May, beginning this weekend. We're currently in the middle of framing the houses at 128 and 133 Doxey Street. We'd welcome your help whenever you can come out for a couple of hours. We have safety gear and some tools, but encourage you to bring your own if possible. Please dress appropriately for construction work and wear heavy duty shoes.

We are scheduling two shifts each Saturday - 9 am and 12:30 pm. This will give more people an opportunity to help without overwhelming our construction crew leaders. Please call or email the office and let us know if you plan to come out on a given Saturday, so we'll know how many to plan for regarding supplies and lunch.

Our family partners, the Noordas and Guerreros are coming out to complete their "sweat equity" most Saturdays, so you should get a chance to meet them. Thanks for being willing to help these families into safe, affordable homes. (posted: May 08 2009)
